They were joined by David Martin in 1960, and after Bob Seath's death in 1962, by Robert Nairn. Johnston himself retired in 1979 and R W Kidd joined under a new name, Johnston Seath & Partners. The practice amalgamated in 1992 with Alistair M Smith Architects, Edinburgh under the title of the Johnston Smith Partnership. A M Brough joined the practice at this time.
