Item 1 of 1Hope-Weir, CharlesCharles Hope-Weir was the proprietor of Craigiehall estate in the mid-18th century. He undertook a Grand Tour in France and Italy with Robert Adam from 1754-55. He was inspired by things he had seen on his travels and set about improving his estate on his return to Scotland. As well as the grotto he commissioned the Adam brothers to design Craigiehall Temple and Criagiehall Bridge and an ornamental lake.
