Symon & Son dated 28 April 1972. Further letter from W.G.C. Steven to James S. Symon & Son dated 3 July 1972 refers to draft measurements, various points with reference to changes made to draft measurements and certification of further payment to main contractor, suggests contact "the Architect, Mr. Walker, 149 Strathern Road, West Ferry, Dundee" to arrange a meeting if intend to contest any or all points set out in letter. Wellbrae Cottage, on the west side of Gas Brae, faces a block of mudwall dwellings, on the east side of Gas Brae, comprising four one-bedroom dwellings, described in Bruce Walker (1977), Clay buildings in north east Scotland, Scottish Vernacular Buildings Working Group, p.49 & p.51. The clay building may have come to Walker's attention during his architectural work at Wellbrae Cottage.
