Within Convener's House, Larkfield, Partick, the 19th of November 1886, at 7.30pm At a meeting of the Public Park Committee Present Mr Ferguson (Convener), Provost MacLean, Bailie Alexander, Mr Storrie, and Mr Robinson
4th January 1887 The Convenor stated that in addition to the design by Messrs Walter Macfarlane he had received designs of gates from the Sun Foundry, Mr Findlay, Buchannan Street and Messrs McCallum Hope, Cadogen Street and these designs were submitted. The committee had also seen a small gate of the same design as Macfarlane and were satisfied of its strength. It was agreed to recommend to the commissioners that the design of Macfarlane be adopted with some minor alterations which the latter were willing to agree to. Bailie Dansken stated that without in any way committing the commissioners, he had taken it upon himself, after seeing the design of the gate recommended by the committee, to ask Mr Lepier, architect, to make a design of a gate with stone pillars, and he submitted a design he had obtained, and which he had shown to the convener of the park committee on Saturday last. Bailie Dansken further stated that he understood the cost of the pillars and a wrought iron gate of the design submitted would be about the sum the committee thought of as a limit, and he had offered the stone from Binnie Quarry at Glasgow quarry rates, which would effect a considerable saving and secure a stone of the most durable description he added that by reducing the size of the pillars from three feet square to two feet six inches, the cost would be lessened by about £30. After considerable discussion it was ultimately agreed on the motion of Mr Thomson, that the minute be adopted, except the recommendations of designs of the gate & railing, and that the matter of designs for gate and railing be re-mitted to the committee for further consideration, with full power to the committee to employ professional assistance, if they think fit. Authority was also given to the committee to employ an architect for the Keepers House, and any other erections necessary for the park.
