Notes: One of three major regional plans authorised by Tom Johnston, Labour Secretary of State from 1941. In order to address the problems of overcrowding and slum conditions in Glasgow, proposals for population overspill and inner area redevelopment were drawn up. The draft report was published in June 1946 and the final book form was published on 20 August 1949. It included proposals for new towns at East Kilbride and Markinch (later renamed Glenrothes).
