Notes: In July 1945 Patrick Abercrombie was appointed Planning Consultant and Derek Plumstead Town Planning Offices at Edinburgh on a temporary basis in order to prepare a town planning scheme for the central area. Plumstead had previously worked with Abercrombie on the Plymouth and Hull plans.

An interim report was presented to Edinburgh Corporation on 31 March 1947 and preliminary drawings exhibited at the 'Scotland Tomorrow' congress, Edinburgh, 3-6 June 1947.

Proposals included the rebuilding of Princes Street, under which a second road would be built as part of a new road and rail system, the industrialisation of Gorgie, Dalry and parts of Leith, the return of Lower Cannongate to residential use and the development of Portobello as a seaside resort Waverley Station would serve suburban lines only while a new two-level station at Morrison Street would be built for inter-city rail services.

The final report was published on 1 January 1949 as 'Civic Survey Plan For The City And Royal Burgh Of Edinburgh' by Patrick Abercrombie and Derek Plumstead.
