Up to 1,700 men worked towards construction; majority of structures constructed in concrete including: jetty for berthing submarines, a scheme to supply water from Loch Sloy, mess, recreation building, five 4-storey sleeping blocks for ratings, dining, refreshment and recreation facilities, shopping arcade, administration building, naval store, victualling store, and wardroom block [Building, 26 April 1968].
