'I trust the fountain will be appreciated by the inhabitants of Hamilton, and that it will prove not only an ornament to the town, but a benefit to passing travellers. I now hand over to Provost Wylie, and to the Magistrates and their successors, the fountain, on condition that it will be kept in good order in future years'
'The fountain which stands at the junction of Cadzow Street is built entirely of Aberdeen and Peterhead granite, and has an imposing appearance. In the centre is a bronze figure representing Industry. The fountain stands about 22 feet high, and since its erection has been much admired'
