Notes: Two terraces of houses of the same design flanking Palmerston Place Church. Previously partly misattributed to John Chesser (including in HS lists), this is in fact by Peddie & Kinnear; Chesser's obituary, cited as a reference for the attribution, in fact refers to houses further north on Heriot Trust land. See separate entry for corner block at 2 Palmerston Place and 31-32 West Maitland Street, designed by Shiells & Thomson as a bank with house above in 1880 after the Union Bank's withdrawal from Peddie & Kinnear's scheme.
