The 1911 building replaced an older village school which had been built on the same site and opened on 10 May 1880. Records of an even older school date back to 1874. By the end of the First World War the secondary department of the school was already presenting pupils for the Scottish Higher Leaving Certificate and, in due course, the school became a full senior secondary under the name of Bearsden Academy.
