OPENING NEW SCHOOL AT ADDIEWELL. A handsome new senior public school was opened by West Calder School Board at Addiewell last evening. Mr John Fyfe, managing director of Messrs Young's oil company, performed the opening ceremony in presence of a large gathering of the inhabitants. Mr William Dalziel, member of the Board, presented Mr Fyfe with a gold key as a memento of the occasion. The school is estimated to cost £2000, and has accommodation for 260 scholars. It has all the latest improvements in school furniture. The erection of the school was rendered necessary by burning the burning of the hall at Addiewell some years ago. Mr Jas Fairley, Edinburgh, is the architect. Edinburgh Evening News 23rd October 1897
