Basic Site Details Name: | Mossbank Industrial School | Town, district or village: | Hogganfield | City or county: | Glasgow | Country: | Scotland | Parish: | | Status: | Demolished | Grid ref: | | Notes: | In October last (1873) the main building of the above institution, situated at Hogganfield, near Glasgow, was destroyed by fire, the damage being estimated at from £9,000 to £10,000. The ceremony of relaying the foundation stone has just taken place. The original structure has been entirely removed, except the two end wings, and it is proposed now to re-arrange it on the block system, the connection being by corridors on the ground floor. When the structure is rebuilt, there will be accommodation for about 400 inmates. In addition to the main block, a large range of workshops has been erected, and a separate building, containing class-rooms, is in contemplation. It is estimated that the cost of re-building the institution will be £8,867, and the directors, it is satisfactory to learn, have sufficient funds in hand to cover this outlay. The structure, which will be of very plain description, will be built of brick. Messrs Campbell, Douglas and Sellars, the architects of the original building, have prepared the plans.
