Bio Notes: Patrick Joseph Hill was born on 8 January 1888 in South Africa and trained with the Edinburgh architect Fergus Carstairs Rogers who practised in Stockdale Street, Kimberley, SA.

He formed a partnership with ___ Brennan as Brennan & Hill. Hill was responsible for the drawing of the front elevation of the Gladstone Hotel, Kimberley which, as Yuill points out, was frequently used as an advertisement for the hotel. In 1911, living in Johannesburg, Hill was elected a Licentiate membership of the RIBA and in his LRIBA papers he mentioned 'it is now two years since I relinquished practice as a principal' (LRIBA nom papers, completed 1910). At the time he was the head of the Architecture and Building Survey branch of the City Engineer's Department and lecturing in Building Construction in association with S Dowsett at the Transvaal University College. He was still working in the City Engineer's Department in Johannesburg in 1913/1914 but after this his career is still obscure.
