Basic Biographical Details

Name: David Skae
Designation:
Born: c. 1770
Died: 1818
Bio Notes: David Skae was an Edinburgh builder. Only one architectural design is known from his hand.

Skae commenced practice in about 1807 from an address in Leith Walk. He seems to have run his business from a property in Elder Street in about 1814 which he sold later that year.

Skae was married to Helen Lothian and they had at least two sons and a daughter. One son David, became a distinguished physician and another joined his father in partnership before 1816 as D & A Skae. They undertook repairs on the Deaf & Dumb Institute in Edinburgh that year. He was a member of the Incorporation of Wrights, Coopers, Painters and Slaters of the Canongate and served as Deacon in 1814 (and perhaps for other years). As Deacon he drew up a report on the proposed Union Canal that year which was published in the Caledonian Mercury.

The older David Skae died in 1818. His wife died in 1827.
