Basic Biographical Details Name: | James Nisbet | Designation: | | Born: | | Died: | 1811 | Bio Notes: | James Nisbet was a plasterer and builder in Edinburgh in the late 18th and early 19th century. In 1784-5 he appears in William's Directory as a plasterer at West Regent Street. By 1801 he had moved to 25 George Street, south side. In 1808 he is listed as a builder in West Rose Street. He seems to have provided plans for the Tontine Hotel and in 1810-11 he is listed as a builder his address being given as 'Tontine, George Street'.
He would seem to have died in 1811. His son was David Nisbet who practised as a builder and architect in the first half of the 19th century also from the address of the Tontine, 124 George Street in Edinburgh.
In 1791 John Paterson reported to Robert Adam that Nisbet 'was so much flattered by his Abilitys in Architecture that he has given up the most of his plaistering business after this his favourite study'. | Private and Business AddressesThe following private or business addresses are associated with this : | | Address | Type | Date from | Date to | Notes | | 124, George Street, Edinburgh, Scotland | Private/business | 1790s | | |
