Surviving drawings by the older Clerk for a house he considered building at Mavisbank indicate that he was interedted in architecture. Letters of 1703-4 show that both Sir John and his son were helping their neighbour, (Sir) David Forbes design and build a country house at Newhall. The older Sir John also designed and built a pyramidally roofed mausoleum at Penicuik Churchyard. |
