Bio Notes: John David Taylor Cowling (generally known as David) was born on 18 August 1937. He studied for the diploma in town planning at the University of Strathclyde. He was elected ARIBA in 1963 and ARIAS in 1964. That same year, 1964, he took a post with Cumbernauld Development Corporation where he remained until at least 1979. Between 1979 and 1984 he moved to become Director of Architectural Services, Fife Regional Council and was based in Glenrothes.

In the RIBA directory of 1994 he gave his home address suggesting he may have retired by this date. He was a Fellow of the RIAS.

Cowling died in Perth on 20 January 2017, survived by his wife Beryl, his daughters and grandchildren.
