He studied for the diploma in architecture at the School of Architecture in Hull and for the diploma in town planning at the University of Strathclyde. He would seem to have been employed by Cumbernauld Development Corporation from at least 1965 if not before and remained there until after 1970. he was elected ARIAS in 1965 and ARIBA in 1966.
By 1979 he had moved to work in London.
