Bio Notes: Robert John Aitken was born on 5 April 1926, the son of John Coutts Hogg Aitken, rubber planter, and his wife Ruth Wilson Todd. He studied at the School of Architecture in Aberdeen. He was elected a student member of the RIBA in 1953. He was elected ARIBA in 1956. By 1979 he was working in the County Architect's Department in Aberdeenshire (Woodhill House, Ashgrove Road West, Aberdeen). He was still there in 1987 but retired about 1992. He died on 23 December 1999 at the Royal Infirmary, Aberdeen. He was predeceased by his wife Hylda Louise robertson, a short-hand typist but was survived by a daughter.

N.B. Jim Galletly's list of architecture students gives diploma date as 1945 and ARIBA date as 1947.
