He was a student member of the RIBA from 1950. He studied for the diploma in architecture in Aberdeen and was elected ARIBA in 1952 and ARIAS in 1957. He was a partner with Mackie Ramsay & Taylor in Aberdeen by 1980.
He died at the Royal Infirmary in Aberdeen on 7 January 1987.
