Basic Biographical Details

Name: Thomas Stanley Aitchison Kennedy
Designation:
Born: 4 April 1906
Died: 2 January 1966
Bio Notes: Thomas Stanley Aitchison Kennedy was born on 4 April 1906, the son of Thomas Crombie Kennedy, draper's assistant and his wife, Allice Gordon Courage. In January 1921 he commenced a four-year apprenticeship with Begg & Lorne Campbell which lasted until April 1925. He continued with the same practice as junior draughtsman for a further three months. During this period he attended the architecture couse (morning classes) at Edinburgh College of Art and classes for building and engineering subjects at Heriot Watt College in the evenings.

From April 1925 until December 1936 he was an architectural assistant with J D Cairns & Ford but at the later date became chief assistant with Dick Peddie Todd & Jamieson. War service interrupted his work with the practice. From November 1940 until June 1945 he was an architecture and engineering assistant with the Admiralty.

He returned to his previous post the Dick Peddie practice, the name now being Dick Peddie McKay & Jamieson. He remained with them until May 1954 when Jamieson retired and he took a post as resident architect with the Royal Bank of Scotland. He was elected LRIBA at the late date of 1956 and FRIAS the following year.. He would appear to have remained with the Royal Bank for the rest of his career. He is listed in the RIBA Directory of 1960-61 as still with the Bank.

Kennedy was found dead on 2 November 1966. His wife Margaret Allan Barrie Livingston had predeceased him.
