Bio Notes: Alexander Budge Reid was born on 8 July 1905. He studied at Glasgow School of Art where he won a prize for measured drawings. He was articled to John Fairweather in Glasgow from 1930-35. He notes that he had a 'special opportunity' while in Fairweather's office of studying the design and construction of theatres and cinemas in the 1930s Fairweather's practice was mainly centred on cinema commissions.

From 1935-37 senior assistant to H W Weeden awhere he worked on 'two cinemographic theatres in Dudley, Worcestershire and at Llanelly, which, according to Weedon he carried to 'my complete satisfaction'. In 1937 Reid moved to the post of Chief Architect in the Blackpool Tower & Winter Gardens Company Architectural Department. From 1940-41 he was senior architect and group leader with the architectural department of the contractor, Sir Lindsay Parkinson. From 1941 he worked with Rendel Palmer & Tritton, consulting engineers, and at the time of his election as LRIBA on 17 June 1941, he was employed in London on Government work. He continued to give his Dumfriesshire address all during this period so that the RIBA had continuity.

He would appear to be the Alexander B Reid who died in Bristol in early 1963, the death being reported between January and March.
