Basic Biographical Details Name: | David Watson Jackson | Designation: | | Born: | 3 November 1913 | Died: | 28 September 1984 | Bio Notes: | David Watson Jackson was born on 3 November 1911. He took the certificate course in Building at the Royal Technical College from 1932 to 1937 and was articled to Sam Bunton from the latter year to 1942. He also took the diploma course at Glasgow School of Architecture from 1938 to 1945. The vacations of the years 1943 and 1944 were spent measuring buildings in Eaglesham, Hamilton, Kilmaurs and Rowallan Castle for the SNBR. He sat the final exam in June 1945 and was elected ARIBA on 15 January 1946, his proposers being Professor William James Smith, Alexander Wright and Jack Coia. He spent some months in 1946 as assistant to James Miller of George Street, Edinburgh and therafter worked for the Ministry of Health and Local Government, the Government of Northern Ireland, working on housing and hospitals.
From 1957 he worked for the Ministry of Finance but was attached to the Ministry of Commerce as senior architect and undertook industrial work. He was elected FRIBA on 3 April 1968, proposed by C Munro, Chief Architect in the Ministry of Finance, Donald Shanks, and William C McVeigh.
