In 1940-41 he spent a year with the practice A Marshall Mackenzie in Aberdeen. after which he embarked on the full-time diploma course at the University of Cambridge. He gained some practical building experience during the final year of his diploma course. He was awarded his diploma in June 1946 and was elected ARIBA on 10 December of that same year, proposed by J Macgregor, Peter Bucknell and A E Richardson. He was employed in London by 1970 at 44 Queen Anne Street. He had he moved to Cambridgeshire by 1991, pssoibly after he retired.
He died on 31 March 2009 at Adenbrookes Hospital.
