Basic Biographical Details Name: | Jeffrey Rowbotham | Designation: | | Born: | 23 August 1920 | Died: | 1 March 1984 | Bio Notes: | Jeffrey Rowbotham was born on 23 August 1920. He was articled initally to James M Monro & Son from February to August 1939 but this seems to have been broken off. In September of the latter year, 1939, he commenced the diploma course at Glasgow School of Art, which amounted to four years of day classes and two years of evening classes. From June 1941 to September 1943 he resumed his apprenticeship this time with Thomas Smith Cordiner. He spent four months in the summer of 1944 measuring at Kilmaurs, Rowallan Castle and Hamilton for the Scottish National Buildings Record. He was awarded his diploma in June 1945. He sat the professional practice exam in July 1945. In September of that year he passed the professional practice exam. He was elected ARIBA on 15 January 1946, proposed by Professor William James Smith, PAtrick Abercrombie and Alexander Wright.
He joined the Clyde Valley Regional Planning Advisory Committee in late 1945 or early 1946.
Rowbotham subsequently became County Planning officer, Lancashire County Council. He retired from this post on 31 March 1983. He died on 1 March 1984, survived by his wife Beryl.
