He was articled to T W Henry in Belfast from 1934-37 and moved to an assistant post with C T McLyon in the latter year. From 1935-39 he studied part-time at Belfast Municipal College of Technology and thereafter for the diploma in architecture at Liverpool. He moved to Edinburgh where he studied at Edinburgh College of Art for a diploma in town planning and in 1943 he was awarded the Andrew Grant Scholarship.
He was elected ARIBA in 1942, proposed by Lionel E Budden, Bernard D Miller and J E Marshall.
In 1960 he was working for the Ministry of Housing and Local Government, London. He is not listed in the RIBA directory for 1965 or in that for 1970.
