Basic Biographical Details Name: | Louis Erdi | Designation: | | Born: | 24 April 1909 | Died: | 1975 | Bio Notes: | Louis Erdi was born in 1909 in Hungary. In his summer vacations from school he worked as a bricklayer and carpenter. From 1927 he studied at the Royal Toldy College in Budapest but would appear to have studied for a degree in architecture at the University of Zurich from this year until 1931. In 1935 he was awarded a degree in architecture by the University of Budapest. During part of this period he worked as assistant in his father's practice but he opened his own practice in 1933 and worked on projects in Hungary, Yugoslavia and Switzerland In 1936 he moved as chief assistant to the practice Messrs Felluer de Toroug Hou and EA Wellisch de Vaguecse.
During the Second World War he moved to London where he was senior assistant with Donald Hsmilton. He opened business on hos won account in London in 1947.
He was elected LRIBA in 1948, proposed by MAx Hofler, Maxwell Fry and Jane Drew. He formed Erdi & Rabson with Ronald Jeffrey Rabson in 1959.
