Basic Biographical Details Name: | Kenneth Richardson Mackenzie | Designation: | | Born: | 1932 or 1933 | Died: | 13 December 1993 | Bio Notes: | Kenneth Richardson Mackenzie was born in 1932 or 1933. He may have studied in Aberdeen. He was elected ARIBA in 1956 and ARIAS in 1961. Later the same year he went to Iran to a post with the Government working on research and development of schools and hospitals. He returned to Edinburgh in 1957 and was employed as architect with W G Brown & Co, architects and consutling town planners where he was in charge of welfare clubs for the British Legion and National Coal Board near Edinburgh.
In 1959 Mackenzie moved to a post with the Moray & Nairn Joint County Council Architect's Department in Elgin at architectural executive grade. He remained there until 1963 and was in charge of a range of projects. In the latter year he moved to work for the National Iranian Oil Company in Abadan. He worked as co-ordinating architect in charge of a consultant-designed range of hospital buildings and new petroleum technical buildings in Abadan. He himself was involved in the design of the Institute of Technology. He also worked on medical and health buildings for the Company.
In 1965 he moved to work for the the Public Works Department of the Government of Sarawak in Malaysia. There he was architect in charge of broadcasting. He stay there was relatively short as he took up a new post in Zomba, Malawi on 19 October 1968 as senior architect. He was responsible for the administration and running of the Architectural Branch of the Ministry of Works and Supplies under the direction of the chief architect. It was a three-year contract. He was responsible for three architects, six architectural assistants and two trainees as well as works supervisors, clerks of works and technical offices throughout the Regional Organisations of the country. He had the responsibility for a wide range of work including schools, welfare police buildings, housing and telecommunications buildings. He was also responsible for the financial administration of projects such as work for those for the World Bank, the United Nations, the British Government and South African Government and the liaison work nedded for these. He was elected FRIBA on 1 October 1969, proposed by D S Atkinson, L Jeffery and S L Donovan.
