Bio Notes: John Laird was born on 27 April 1935, the son of George Laird, architect and his wife Helen Robson Caldwell. He graduated DA from Glasgow School of Art (later changed to BArch from the University of Strathclyde) and was elected ARIBA in 1962 and ARIAS in 1964. He practised in the west of Scotland. He was sole partner of the practice founded in the later 19th century.

By 1979 the name of the pratice was John Laird Associates. He was a FRIAS. In 1984 he was working in a practice named Project Design Partnership which incorporated John Laird Associates. By 1990 he was working with Ronald Watt Associates. During 1996 he worked as a consultant to Harvey & Scott, Gynn & Duff. Because of ill-health his subscription to the RIAS demitted in early 1997. However further illness caused him to retire in May. He died on 31 October 1997, survived by his wife, Mary Mitchell Anderson, a landscape gardener.
