Basic Biographical Details Name: | David William Louis Jameson | Designation: | | Born: | 22 August 1970 | Died: | 8 November 2007 | Bio Notes: | David William Louis Jameson was born on 22 August 1970, the son of Reginald Frank Jameson, University lecturer of chemistry, and his wife Susan Joan Waterhouse. He was brought up in Dundee and Vienna. He studied at the Mackintosh School of Architecture in Glasgow from October 1988 and was awarded the degree of BArch in 1993. During the third year of his degree he won the competition to design the School’s exhibit at the Venice Biennale. The same year he was awarded the John Kinross travel scholarship from the Royal Scottish Academy.
Jamieson took a post with MacCromac Jamieson Pritchard in London where he remained for two years before returning to Scotland to study at the Mackintosh School for a further degree, graduating MArch in 1995. He was elected ARIBA in 1996. The year of his graduation, 1995, he took a post with Reid & Greig and was invited by Mike Rodgers to become a partner at the unusually young age of 28. In 2005 Mike and David joined two other business partners as LJRH.
At the same time as being involved in the practice, Jameson worked as a part-time tutor at the University of Dundee. He became friendly with the Head of the School of Architecture, Graeme Hutton, and they collaborated on various commissions. Three were shown at the Royal Scottish Academy along with the design for Dundee Baptist Church on which Jameson worked with Oliver Chapman. Overall, Jameson mainly worked on housing.
David suffered from a long-term serious illness which required repeated medical intervention. His used his hospital experience constructively by designing buildings for renal patients.
Outwith his profession he was keen on classic cars and enjoyed rallying. As a person he was unassuming and was described by his business partner Bob Hyn as ‘a forward thinking architect with the manners representative of a gentler Edwardian era’
He died at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Jedburgh Place, Dundee, on 8 November 2007, survived by his father and brother.
