Bio Notes: Charles Brown was born in 1856 or 1857, the son of Thomas Brown, master nailmaker and his wife Catherine Smith. He was Burgh Surveyor of Hawick in the early 20th century. He was married twice, first to Janet Cochrane, and second to Agnes Liddell. His son, Thomas Liddell Brown, was also a burgh surveyor. Either Thomas or another son lived in Liverpool at the time of his father's death.
