Bio Notes: Ernest William Lovett was born in London on 23 November 1916, the son of Ernest Lovett, drugstore proprietor, and his wife Caroline Bishop. He was admitted ARIBA in 1940. During the Second World War he was with five other young qualified architects as an army team under Captain Gerald Lacoste RE ARIBA working on aerial photographs of the Siegfried Line . This ended when the Germans overran France. The group was subsequently moved to Scotland from their base in England.

By 1970 he was a partner with Charles W Gray & Partners. Thereafter he became 'one of John Laidlaw's Partners' in the Bamber Gray partnership. Just prior to his retirement he spent eight or nine years working as site architect for Queensbery House Hospital which was to become part of the Scottish Parliament complex. He retired from the RIAS in 2000 and died at his home on 30 May 2002. His wife Helen Wilson McQueenie had predeceased him but he was survived by at least one son who lived in St Louis, Missouri.
