Bio Notes: James Ian Ballantyne was born on 31 July 1923 at Haugh of Urr, the son of Allan Thomas Ballantyne, ironmonger, and his wife Jane Anne Nicholas Mansion Riddoch who had married in Dumfries in 1923. He studied for the degree of DA in Glasgow, later converting it to a BArch, Univesity of Strathclyde. He was admitted ARIBA in 1950. In the 1960s he was taken into partnership in the practice John Laird & Son.
