He studied architecture at the School of Art in Glasgow. He was elected a student member of the RIBA in 1949, ARIBA in 1952 and ARIAS in 1956. He practised as an architect in Lanarkshire. In 1981 he was running the practice Malcolm Ross & Sons from 36 Main Street, Lanark. Later he would appear to have practised from his home at Stanmore Road in Lanark. He is still listed under this address in 1987.
