He studied architecture at the Glasgow School of Art. He also studioed for a diploma in town planning in Glasgow. He was admitted ARIBA in 1949. He was living in Giffnock in 1950. By 1956 he had moved to East Kilbride where he had a post with the Development Corporation, remaining there until at least 1960.
By 1965 he had moved to Durham.
