Basic Biographical Details Name: | Alexander ( 'Sandy') Henry Bannerman | Designation: | | Born: | 8 October 1927 | Died: | 17 December 2021 | Bio Notes: | Alexander ( 'Sandy') Henry Bannerman was born in Aberdeen on 8 October 1927, the son of Alexander Henry Bannerman, meat salesman, and his wife Jane Elizabeth Strachan. He studied for the diploma in architecture in Aberdeen and for a further degree in town planning in Glasgow. He was awarded a distinction in his thesis, and won the RIBA Archibald Dawnay Scholarship in 1949 and the Hunter Barsary in 1955.
He would seem to have started his career in Harlow New Town but moved East Kilbride and then by 1960 he was working for Cumbernauld New Town Development Corporation. However he had moved to Co. Armagh in Northern Ireland in 1965 where he became director of the Craigavon Development Commission From 1973 he was Divisonal Planning Officer, Department of the Environment in Northern Ireland. In 1977 he returned to Scotland where he was briefly a partner with W J Cairns & Partners in Edinburgh and then held the post of Chief Architect of the Glenrothes Development Corporation from 1980-1992.
