Bio Notes: John Lawrie Lumsden should not be confused with James Law Lumsden who was Burgh Architect of Kirkcaldy in about 1907. He studied for the diploma in architecture at Edinburgh College of Art. He was elected ARIBA in 1946. In 1950 his business address was 49 Constitution Sreet, Leith. This address he shared with Frank Allan and they may have been working together.

By 1953 he was working in Mauritius. His address is given as c/o The Secretariat, Port Louis. Before 1960 Lumsden had moved and taken a post as Assistant Director, Public Works Department, Sarawak. By 1960 he was Chief Architect there.

From 1964 or before his address is in North Berwick and he practised from there in the 1960s and 1970s. He was elected ARIAS in 1964. In 1975 he was practising in association with H Wylie & Partners.
