Basic Biographical Details Name: | John ('Jack') Baird | Designation: | | Born: | 16 May 1915 | Died: | 27 April 2006 | Bio Notes: | John ('Jack') Baird was born on 16 May 1915, the son of Robert Baird, colliery salesman and his wife, Elizabeth McGregor Kay. From October 1935 he took morning classes at Edinburgh College of Art concurrently with evening classes at Heriot Watt College. During this period he was articled to William Williamson & Hubbard in Kirkcaldy. He was exempted from the intermediate exam in June 1940. From October of that year he attended the College full-time for two years and was again exempted from the RIBA final exam in June 1942. He was admtted ARIBA in 1943, his proposers being Frank Charles Mears, Leslie Grahame Thomson and William Williamson. He was elected ARIAS in 1964.
He studied for the Diploma in Town Planning which was awarded on 29 September 1944. His address at that date was Burntisland. In 1964 his address was in Glenrothes. Jack Baird was Chief Architect to the Glenrothes Development Corporation from 1977-80.
He resigned from the RIBA in 1981 and died in Glenrothes Hospital on 27 April 2006.
