Bio Notes: Anthony John Monk studied for the degree of MArch at Yale under Paul Rudolph and Serge Chermayeff and completed the diploma at University College in London. He was elected ARIBA in 1962. He was also a member of the ARIAS.

The practice of Hutchison Locke & Monk was established in 1964 by David Alan Hutchison, Graham Locke and Anthony John Monk in Richmond, Surrey when the three won the competition for Paisley Civic Centre. They had studied together at The Bartlett School of Archtiecture. In the same year they opened an office in Paisley, and in 1976 Duncan Adam became a partnert. They moved in 1986 to Ingram Street in Glasgow and in 1991 to Riverside House, 200 Clyde Street, Glasgow. In the early 1980s, Leslie Welch and Christopher Liddle joined the practice as partners. In 1988 the name of the firm became HLM Design, of which the Scottish part is HLM Architects.
