Basic Biographical Details Name: | Michael Lumsden | Designation: | | Born: | 16 August 1917 | Died: | 8 March 1975 or 8 March 1976 | Bio Notes: | Michael Lumsden was born on 16 August 1917 and began his apprenticeship in the office of Thomas Forbes Maclennan of Arbroath in 1935, studying at Edinburgh College of Art. He transferred to the office of Donald Ross of Carver, Symon & Ross, also in Arbroath, in 1937 to complete his apprenticeship. After passing the intermediate exam in 1939 he attended Dundee School of Architecture full-time for two years, passing the final exam in Edinburgh in December 1941. He was admitted ARIBA on 14 April 1942, his proposers being T Forbes Maclennan, Charles Geddes Soutar, and Ross, who described him as "capable, efficient & trustworthy". In 1950 he was still assisting in the Carver Symon & Ross practice, by now in Dundee.
He emigrated to New Zealand where he worked in the City Engineer's Department in Wellington in the 1960s. In the 1970s he was working for Stephenson & Turner in the same town.
