Basic Biographical Details

Name: Hugh Martin & Partners
Designation:
Born: 1969

Bio Notes: Hugh Harold Martin was born on 12 August 1922, the son of Alexander Martin confectioner and his wife Eva Gillman. He was elected ARIBA in 1948. In 1950 he was working in Dundee. It seems likely that he met with his future partner, Ian Burke, in Dundee. In 1958 Ian Burke and Hugh Martin formed a partnership and practised for 10 years before this was dissolved in 1969. Hugh Martin then took Robert Leiper, Ronald S Sutherland and George M Keith into partnership to form Hugh Martin & Partners, with an office at 22 Ainslie Place, Edinburgh. Subsequent partners have been Bill Galloway, Ian Cook, Ann Sutherland, Neil McLeish, Donald Scott and D Cameron Walker. In about 1980 the practice moved to 18 Rothesay Place.

The practice's work has mainly consisted of large commercial and office developments.

Martin died on 30 November 1981 at Longforgan, survived by his wife Nancy Small McEwan.
