Basic Biographical Details

Name: Ivor Llewellyn Bowman Hopkins
Designation:
Born: 22 June 1916

Bio Notes: Ivor Hopkins was born on 22 June 1916, the son of Isaac Hopkins, inland revenue clerk and his wife Elizabeth Jane Bowman. He served a three-year apprenticeship with E L Williamson from June 1933, while attending evening classes at Aberdeen School of Architecture, and continued with three years of full-time study at the same School. He passed the intermediate exams in June 1938 and the final exams and RIBA Professional Practice exam in June 1939. The following month he took up a post in the office of J A O Allan, and he was still there when he was admitted ARIBA on 21 October 1941, his proposers being Allan, A G R Mackenzie and James B Nicol.

He was in partnership with ___ Forrest as Forrest & Hopkins in c.1950, and worked from 3a Alford Place, Aberdeen from prior to this date until at least 1964, when he was a representative of the Aberdeen chapter of the RIAS. The partnership with Forrest appears to have been dissolved as he joined Jenkins & Marr as a partner at some point after the mid-1970s. He left in 1982, resigning his RIBA membership.

Hopkins died on 1 August 1992, survived by his wife Doreen Isobel Hendry and their son.
