Bio Notes: Harold Oswald was born into a family of architects. His father Joseph Oswald was born on 19 March 1851 and was articled to his father, Septimus Oswald of Newcastle upon Tyne, from 1863 to 1868. He remained as assistant until 1876 when he was taken into partnership. In or after 1900 Joseph took his son Harold into partnership. His brother Gilbert subsequently also joined the practice. After Harold died in 1938 and Gilbert in 1945 the practice was carried on by various other partners including James Reid. The firm was responsible for the design of a number of public houses and Harold Oswald specialised in the deisgn of race courses.
