Lindsay had commenced his career in Pearce Brothers Lilybank Foundry and had worked in the engineering department of Gilroy Brothers Tay Works in the mid-1860s. Urquhart died on 17 April 1891 and Lindsay on 25 April 1897 but the business continued under the same name.
