Bio Notes: Stellmacs Limited was a design and build practice which operated from 57 Oswald Street, Glasgow from 1927 to 1940 and thereafter from 307 West George Street, Glasgow. The firm was created by Frank F Maxwell, Archibald Stewart and William J Maxwell, the name Stellmacs clearly deriving from a combination of parts of their names. They also practised simultaneously as Maxwell Stewart and Maxwell certainly in the late 1930s and probably at other times. In the 1938 edition of Kelly's Directory an advertisement for Stellmacs which is described as 'designers and erectors of all classes of buildings: cinemas, churches institutions. Designs and estimates free'.

Stellmacs seem to have been able to offer clients an all-inclusive service, which would have been attractive to cinema developers. They would design the cinema, which was generally unpretentious, small and economical but attractive and modern at the same time and to construct it as well.

It is as yet unclear if the firm operated after World War II.
