Bio Notes: John Muir McRobbie was born in Crieff. He was articled to Simpson McMichael & Davidson. He was admitted to the RIBA in 1936 and was an Associate of the Stirling Society of Architects by 1939-40. He was also qualified as a chartered surveyor. After completing his articles he continued to work for the same practice where he remained until the outbreak of the Second World War. A testimonial written by Simpson McMichael & Davidson in January 1940 describes the range of work undertaken by McRobbie: "In domestic work he has had much responsibility in the building of many villas and large dwellings, last year particularly in the development of a housing scheme for the Burgh of Callander, Perthshire. He has also been engaged on estate development with the necessary formation of roads, sewers, water supply etc."

During the Second World War he served in the War Department in a reserved occupation as Surveyor with the Deputy Commander Royal Engineers Air Defence of Great Britain, based in Perth. He remained in this post until 1947.

In this same year McRobbie return to his native town and set up in business on his own account. He continued successfully in business, building and altering many houses in Crieff until he retired in 1973. He died in 1997.
