Basic Biographical Details Name: | John Okell | Designation: | | Born: | 23 April 1913 | Died: | 1972 | Bio Notes: | John Okell was born on 23 April 1913 and was articled to Henry Francis Kerr from 1931, studying at the School of Architecture, Edinburgh College of Art from. In 1935 he transferred to the office of John Alexander Carfrae where he remained for a year, continuing his studies until June 1938 when he obtained his diploma. He was admitted ARIBA on 9 January 1939, his proposers being Thomas Forbes Maclennan, James Alexander Arnott and John Wilson. He was a member of the Edinburgh Architectural Association and was still practising in Edinburgh in the late 1950s, although whether on his own account or as an employee is unclear. He was elected FRIAS in 1957. At the time of his election his address was 7 St Colme Street in Edinburgh. In the early 1950s this was the address of T W Marwick and therefore Okell may have been employed at this date by them.
By 1963 Okell had moved to work in Londonderry.
