Basic Biographical Details Name: | Reginald William Johnston | Designation: | | Born: | 7 June 1912 | Died: | 2004 | Bio Notes: | Reginald William Johnston was born on 7 June 1912; it is not clear whether he was Scottish. He studied at the University of Cambridge from 1931 to 1934 and at Edinburgh College of Art from the latter year until June 1936. He then spent a year as assistant to Tarbolton & Ochterlony and another as assistant to T P Marwick & Son, passing the qualifying exam in December 1937. He was admitted ARIBA on 24 October 1938, his proposers being Harold Ogle Tarbolton, Matthew Montgomerie Ochterlony and Thomas Craigie Marwick. He was also an Associate of the Edinburgh Architectural Association and was living at 3 Howden Hall Road, Edinburgh at that time.
By about 1940 he appears to be still an assistant with the Marwick practice. In 1950 his address is given as being in Boat of Garten, Inverness-shire but he moved to England to work for Clifford Strange & Partners by 1960 and later for J Godfrey-Gilbert & Partners.
He died in 2004, his death being registered in November.
