Basic Biographical Details Name: | Elizabeth Fergus Comrie (Miss) | Designation: | | Born: | 12 May 1912 | Died: | | Bio Notes: | Miss Elizabeth Fergus Comrie was born on 12 May 1912 and studied on the Diploma Course at the School of Architecture, Edinburgh College of Art from October 1931. She secured a bursary which enabled her to travel to Ely and Switzerland in summer 1934, and made measured drawings at Culross in January 1935. From September 1936 to July 1937 she worked in the office of the then City Architect, Ebenezer James MacRae, and on 16 June the following year she passed the professional practice exam at the School of Architecture. Four months later she entered the office of Thomas Purves Marwick & Son and a month after that she applied for admittance as ARIBA, for which she was elected on 6 February 1939, her proposers being MacRae, James Inch Morrison and Thomas Craigie Marwick. She was also a member of the Edinburgh Architectural Association.
She remained in Edinburgh thereafter, although whether practising on her own account or as an employee is unclear. She was AMTPI by 1950. She resigned her RIBA membership in 1977.
