From September 1936 to July 1937 she worked in the office of the then City Architect, Ebenezer James MacRae, and on 16 June the following year she passed the professional practice exam at the School of Architecture. Four months later she entered the office of Thomas Purves Marwick & Son and a month after that she applied for admittance as ARIBA, for which she was elected on 6 February 1939, her proposers being MacRae, James Inch Morrison and Thomas Craigie Marwick. She was also a member of the Edinburgh Architectural Association.
