Basic Biographical Details Name: | William Elliot | Designation: | | Born: | 1761 | Died: | c. 1835 | Bio Notes: | William Elliot was born in 1761, the son of Thomas Elliot, the minister at Cavers, Roxburghshire, and a man who was accomplished in mathematics and astronomy.
William Elliot acted as both architect and builder. He designed several minor country houses in the Borders. In about 1810 he brought an action in court against Sir John Lowther Johnstone of Westerhall for whom he had undertaken various works on the estate - alterations and additions to the house, farm buildings and estate buildings - for non-payment of accounts. The case dragged on for more than ten years but it would appear that neither party was awarded any money in the end of the day.
Elliot was still in practice in 1825. His wife had died on 25 July 1815. By 1837 his son, Walter, had taken over the practice. His father had presumably died about 1835.
